On what could have been a day at home or in the playground, students at MS 2 Parkside Prep chose to participate in the 2011 Martin Luther King Day of Service Challenge. Students met with Ms. Dawes and other teachers from MS 2 first at IS 292 for their opening ceremonies and then moved on to PS 149 to do their "day on" of service. The kids and their teachers had a wonderful day. They tweeted throughout the day. Follow their conversation at http://twitter.com/mlkday. Soon they will be sharing their reflections of the day at http://mlkday.gov/indx.php .
The purpose of this project is for students to discover how and why social and political changes occur and present us with the city we live in today. Students will use a variety of resources to compare and contrast the many ways Manhattan has changed in 100 years. Some changes will include architecture, social changes such as immigration patterns, education, reforms and entertainment. Various Web tools were used to enhance the project presentation.
