Fourteen of us–special education teachers, school psychologists, speech therapists, and other educators–recently spent six hours brainstorming with the goal of producing a starter iPad app catalog for teachers and students in our district, and beyond. Thanks to my colleagues for helping the district pioneer through new territory!
From its inception, Apex Learning has sought to increase access to high quality educational alternatives for all students through online learning. From the start we recognized that a successful online learning experience depends on the quality of the curriculum and its ability to meet the unique needs of each student.

- write an in-depth article as though they experienced those events firsthand; and
-discuss what lessons can be learned from Pearl Harbor.
In this engaging and award-winning web activity, kids take on the role of history detectives to investigate what really may have happened at the First Thanksgiving.
Starting this month, iZone is accepting school applications for the 2012-2013 school year. Up to 200 new middle and high schools will be accepted into the iZone360 or iLearnNYC initiatives. At this time, we are not accepting applications for InnovateNYC.
School leaders, teachers and staff interested in joining the iZone are encouraged to attend one of the iZone Open Houses held in November and December. Open Houses will give an overview of the iZone, a look at classrooms implementing iZone strategies, and the opportunity to speak with current iZone school leaders and teachers.

There are hundreds of web tools that have been developed educators in mind. Although it is not possible for us to know and use all of them, there are some tools that we should all have in the bag.
The new version of Encyclopedia of Life - referred to as EOLv2 - is now available. The platform is more engaging, accessible and personal. The concept of "Flipping the Classroom," which involves having students learn independently from video-based lessons and do their “homework” in school with the teacher’s help, is gaining popularity -- and a successful track record. These full day workshops are designed for technology coordinators and teachers with beginner to advanced experience working with Macs, Mac OS X Server, and iPad.
Our morning is filled with a hands-on exploration of the Macintosh computer, discovering what makes the Mac operating system (Mac OS X) extremely user-friendly and universally available. We will learn about its rich application set that enhances learning and improves student engagement, from iLife and iWork to the vast array of free, educational content available in iTunes U.
In the afternoon, we review how to best utilize Mac OS X Server, with an overview of Mac Server basics, including: user and group management, the advantages of network accounts, maintaining student work in a central location, and how to harness the power of Apple Remote Desktop to observe student activity and administer an appropriate learning environment.
We close the day with the magical iPad, with a focus on how multi-touch gestures change the way students interact with technology, along with a demonstration of educational apps that customize and transform learning in the classroom.
